On-line Updates

Your INSYDIUM plugin can update itself automatically by downloading and installing the latest version from our site.

Your INSYDIUM plugin (PRODUCT) can update itself automatically by downloading and installing the latest version from our site. This process requires a restart of Cinema 4D, and full details can be found in the manual.

Occasionally, after an update the PRODUCT may not work correctly. This usually happens if it was installed in the plugins folder inside the Cinema 4D applications folder, rather than in the user preferences folder. We strongly recommend that the PRODUCT is installed into the plugins folder which is found in the user preferences folder.

This is because for security reasons both Windows and OSX place certain restrictions on what can be done in the Program Files (Windows) or Applications (OSX) folders. These restrictions can sometimes interfere with the online updater if the PRODUCT is located within the hierarchy of these folders.

You can see examples of both folder locations here:

Fixing update problems

This is straightforward. Please follow these steps to restore the PRODUCT to working order.

1. Remove the PRODUCT from your system

To do this, delete the folder called ‘PRODUCT’ from the ‘plugins’ folder in the Cinema 4D applications folder, if it is there.

On Windows this path might look like: C:\Program Files\MAXON\CINEMA 4D R15\plugins\X-Particles
On OSX the path might look like this: Applications/MAXON/CINEMA 4D R15/plugins/X-Particles

In either case, delete the folder called ‘PRODUCT’, if there is one.

Now go to the user preferences folder. This can be found by running Cinema 4D, going to the Edit menu, and clicking ‘Preferences’:

When the dialog box appears, the user preferences folder can be found at the foot of the box, like so:

Prefs2.png

Within that folder you will find another ‘plugins’ folder. Delete the PRODUCT folder inside that folder as well, if it exists.

2. Restart Cinema 4D

You can download the current full version of the PRODUCT from the downloads page on this site. Then install the plugin by unzipping the archive, preferably into the ‘plugins’ folder in the user preferences folder, NOT in the executable folder’s plugins folder. That will prevent problems with the updater in the future.

When you restart Cinema 4D the PRODUCT should now appear correctly.
